For external access, you can have one machine that is always on, and either use a vpn, or set up a port forward on the firewall. For extra privacy/security, I do a default install, then go into the settings -> connections, and turn off "Global Discovery" and "Enable Relaying". Just download and install, then point them at each other (it even auto-detects other syncthing clients on the local network so you don't have to scan codes or copy long id strings across). I highly highly recommend the service, the onboarding experience is better if you go in blind because Todoist is so accommodating there really is no wrong way to do something.Ĭlick to expand.Aside from my iOS frustrations above, syncthing is fairly easy to set up and use, all of the other platforms have decent clients. I've been using the app service since I was pubescent and it just keeps getting better. For example, if I check off the task now, instead of Nov 13th 12:00 as the next entry, it'll be Nov 15th 12:00, (eight days from today) automagically, neat! The calendar entries will also update to respect the ever changing intervals of the last completion date. The ! in "every!" as opposed to "every" means the next due date will be eight days since it was last completed as opposed to every eight days from the origination date regardless of the last time was marked complete. In todoist, you'll find the task in your custom Home project or in your custom GTD (get this done) filter view with a high priority (!!1). In the app you can just go: "buy milk every! eighth day of the month at noon starting next week !!1 #Home" and sure enough on Mon, Nov 13th at 12:00 you'll see buy milk in your calendar (if you've enabled that integration) and every eight days thereafter. Like Samuel said, the natural language is superior, you just dump your tasks/thoughts as is and the app figures it out in real time. The integration is damn so clean I feel like I'm robbing them staying the Beginner tier. I have never EVER experienced such a seamless and mature integration of a task management/to-do list app into all aspects of my life.įor those of you in doubt, I don't even have the app installed on my phone (digital minimalism) but I still have read and write access to my tasks. +1 to Samuel Axon's Todoist recommendation.
